I’d like to tell you a story

Once upon a time in a far off  land called Canada a girl child was born.  It was a cold miserable day as a blizzard took over the city.  The child was given no name so the doctor picked a name to go on her birth certificate.

According to her mother this child never spoke a word until she was 4 ½ years old.  She only said one word “why”.

She was very brave one day and asked her mum why her skin was so dark and everyone else in the family was so white.  Are you ready for the answer?  She was told that they were out for a drive and found her standing on the roadside with only a paper bag with a few clothes in it.  They felt sorry for her because no-one wanted her so they took her home.  Now the little girl knew that was a lie but she said nothing.

Once at school this shy but very clever little girl was always being bullied one way or another for years.

With all that happened to this little girl she managed to excel at school.  She grew up and put herself through college not once but twice.

She told this story to a dear friend and colleague who was a psychiatrist, one of the best, as they watched the killer whales.  He asked “what happened to her?” My reply was “You are looking at her – how do you like me now”  I said it with a smile and a wink.

Why am I telling you this you may ask. It is my belief system that the past one has lived through is there for a reason.  This is where knowledge and understanding comes from.  We can use it or abuse it by beating oneself up because of it.  It is how we react to it that may make or break you.  When you react emotionally you go into the negative emotion which can put you into a world of confusion and chaos.  This can attack your feelings of self worth and self esteem and much more.

This is why I am a certified specialist in these areas.

  • Panic anxiety stress disorder.
  • Stress management
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Fears and phobias.

I could tell you more about what this little girl – now a grown woman – went through – but there is no reason for that.  What I will tell you is that it made me strong in mind and taught me many things.

While living and practicing on Vancouver Island I met a rather interesting man.  He was from New Zealand and of Maori descent.  After some time we were married – hence my last name.

Knowing my husband wanted to return home after years of living away from his homeland and family I applied to immigrate and was accepted.

November 6th 2001 we arrived in Auckland.  We each had one suitcase.  My husband had no job and I had a new practice to set up.  We stayed with family until we rented a place of our own.  At the age of 50 we were literally starting all over again when other people our age were well established.  November 19th 2004 I became a New Zealand citizen.

Before I left Canada I was teaching Certified Hypnotherapists all aspects of therapy in the management of Stress, Panic Anxiety, Stress Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Phantom Pain and Depression.

May 14th 2008 a feature article was written in the Health and Fitness section of the Northern Advocate.  The article focused on Hypnotherapy and myself.

October 2008 addition of Next Magazine an article called “The Healer Within” was written about a client of mine who had suffered from Panic Anxiety Stress Disorder and my role in her complete recovery.

Why am I telling you all this?  The answer is quite simplistic.  I would like you to make a knowledgeable decision based on my credentials and qualifications not by the way you like or dislike how I look based on a photograph.  That is why there is no picture of myself.

Do not be afraid! Just know that when you make the decision to take back control of a part of your life that is going out of control, you will not be alone on your journey to being free.

Are you ready for a happier you?

Are you struggling with something that stops you from being who you really want to be? I can help you open the doors and reach your true potential.
